Reports came out today that Oasis have split up, Noel Gallagher quitting the band following some major disagreements with fellow band-member and brother Liam. This doesn’t surprise me – the Gallagher brother’s have a fiery temper, all too evident if you read the daily tabloids… but it does seem like their is no turning back from this altercation. So what of the future of Oasis as a group – have they played their final gig, recorded their final song, and will we have to wait a couple of decades for a reunion? I can definitely maybe see both the Gallagher brother’s continuing on with successful solo careers – they have a knack of songwriting and their A-list celebrity status will keep them in the public’s attention.

Love them or hate them, there’s no disagreeing that Oasis has been Britain’s number one rock and roll band and since their supersonic debut album, Definitely Maybe was released in 1994. Their turn-the-amp-up approach to rock and roll have left countless anthems and a legacy that few groups will ever reach.

Whenever Oasis release a single, you can be assured that the B-Side will be of as good a quality as the title track. Undoubtedly the most well-loved of their B-Side’s is this track, “The Masterplan”, which accompanied the release of “Wonderwall” in October 1995, a single which was a huge chart success across the globe. On the “Masterplan” album (a compilation of B-Sides), Noel Gallagher is quoted as saying the The Masterplan is his finest piece of work, one that he is most proud of. His brother, Liam Gallagher wishes he sang the lyrics on the song! The song is about your journey through life, and how much of it we don’t know.

I’m not saying right is wrong
It’s up to us to make
The best of all things that come our way

In 2006, a video was finally created for The Masterplan. The video is in the style of an L.S.Lowry painting and the sombre, tired, coal-dusted scene of Manchester fits the mood of the song well.
